10 Amazing Reading Websites for Distance Learning

10 AMAZING READING WEBSITES

Are you searching for reading websites to use for distance learning? Having books in a child’s hand is essential. With distance learning, this is a challenge for many, as parents and teachers struggle with finding books.  Have no fear! Today, I am sharing some amazing reading websites for students in the primary grades.

EPIC

Epic has everything from picture books to chapter books, early readers, audiobooks, graphic novels, non-fiction titles, educational books, videos, and more. They even have books in Spanish. This app also includes informational videos.

RAZ KIDS

Make reading fun with the RAZ-Kids (aka Reading A to Z)!  This is one of my favorite reading websites!  This site provides a personal library for every student and includes built-in incentives and awards that keep them motivated and engaged.  There are a variety of resource available to use for reading, handwriting, phonics…. The list goes on and on!  One of my favorite features is that students have the ability to record themselves reading!!  The teacher hub is very user friendly, too. It is a win-win for everyone!

TUMBLEBOOKS

Tumblebooks is a curated database of children’s e-books, which is available by subscription.  The Tumblebook library includes animated, talking picture books, read-along chapter books, National Geographic videos, non-fiction books, graphic novels and more!  It’s a great resource and teaches them the joy of reading in a format the kids love. It’s one of my students’ favorite reading websites!

VOOKS

Vooks is an online children’s book library filled with animated storybooks. It’s the perfect tool for distance learning or homeschooling parents. They offer free teacher resources to go along with some of the most popular titles!  Here’s the best part: Vooks is currently offering teachers/homeschool an AMAZING DEAL!   Educators can try it FREE for the first year!

ABCya

ABCya could be used to add some more fun into skill work! There are several reading games that could be assigned depending on what skill your group is working on.

STARFALL

Starfall offers both a free online phonics/reading program and a (fee-based) reading/language arts curriculum. It specializes in teaching children from preschool through third grade to read with the help of phonetics. Kids will learn songs to help them learn and have tons of practice putting it all together. More.Starfall.com is a separate membership area of the site that extends available offerings to include customizable worksheet generators, lesson plans, math games, more extensive phonics games, and more.

myON

myON is a subscription website that also provides access to virtual books for students. Grade levels or schools can purchase subscriptions. This option is pricey, but it includes many features for progress monitoring that make it unique.

MAGIC BLOX

Magic Blox offers a large and growing collection of eBooks for kids 1 to 13 years old, students get to enjoy new books all the time from award winning authors and publishers from around the world.  In addition to titles you are familiar with from traditional publishers, they also have the opportunity to discover new stories from authors they’ve never heard of or try out new languages they’ve never seen.

STORYLINE

Storyline Online, streams videos featuring actors reading children’s books alongside illustrated stories. Each story comes with a free Activity Guide and can be viewed on YouTube or SchoolTube.

YOUR PUBLIC LIBRARY

Finally, reach out to your public library to see if they offer books online. Another option is to see if the library offers curbside pickup so kids can check out books. Share the information with the parents in your classroom via email, google classroom, Zoom meeting, or handout.

  1. I would love this resource to use in my classroom. A teacher becomes stronger by surrounding herself with resilient teachers who are reflective and keep moving forward. I would love to have access to these resources to help me grow for my students .

    I would be so grateful.

    Kind regards,
